Costabercis name is compounded by two sienese words : costa, which means hill, and Berci which mean scream. This remarkable name comes from the historical battle of Montaperti, which occurred in 1260, where there have been a struggle the Ghibellines, lead by Siena , and the Guelph, lead by Florence. During the battle, a group of local farmers screamed to the inhabitants of Montaperti announcing the arrive of the guelphs soldiers. due to this historical event comes the name Costaberci the screams hill.
